Sufei´s World
In the early 1970s, Shirley MacLaine switched from Hollywood to a television movie. The production she joined was Shirley's World, a series that ran on ABC from September 1971 to January 1972. She played a photographer who travelled the world. It flopped.
In her memoirs, "You can get there from here", Mclaine explains:
Early on, when the first scripts had come in, I had called my agent to complain. I told him it just wasn´t going to work, the scripts were terrible. I was playing a nosy, irritating, empty-minded little banana head, who goes around the world bothering people. Worse, the people Shirley Logan bothered were even lower on the human scale than she was. The Italians pinched her, the Arabs stole, the Chinese were stupid and mercenary...
To be fair to the Chinese interviewees starring in Sexy Beijing: The Beijing Caucus of January 28, 2008, they were neither stupid nor mercenary. They were actually quite patient, while answering Ms Loewenberg´s questions, even though some of them apparently had work to do.
But Ms Loewenberg either was a nosy, irritating, empty-minded little banana head, or she played one.
The best comes at the end of the video 6' 15'' video: "I'm just glad that since we enjoy such great freedom and democracy, that we aren't that shallow when it comes to voting in America."
A joke, or is it?
